San Marco la Catola (Foggia): theft foiled at posted

Despite some thefts attempted with the marmot technique, Poste Italiane’s security systems are among the most advanced, managing to foil 58% of the criminal events attempted in Italy in the last year. The latest episode occurred last night at the San Marco La Catola post office, in viale Aldo Moro, 1.

At 02:09, the Situation Room in Naples, the Poste Italiane control room active 24 hours a day, received alarm signals. Surveillance cameras showed two masked thugs trying to enter the post office.

The operators immediately activated the siren with voice synthesis and the fog system, which releases dense fog into the environment. Due to poor visibility, the thieves gave up and fled.

The police, promptly alerted, arrived on site together with the post office director, confirming that no valuables had been stolen. This success is due to Poste Italiane’s investments in security, which include timed safes and counters equipped with RollerCash, special safes that only open at the conclusion of a transaction.

To protect ATMs, Poste Italiane has introduced systems such as the “guillotine”, a mobile bulkhead that prevents the insertion of explosives into the safe, making attacks ineffective. These measures have significantly contributed to the reduction of crimes in recent years.

Furthermore, Poste Italiane has implemented numerous armed security services in the post offices of Foggia and its province. In 2023, over 1,328 hours of security guard presence were guaranteed during office opening hours and over 1,016 inspection patrols were carried out, both day and night. The offices are also equipped with a closed-circuit video surveillance system with 776 cameras, which, thanks to predictive video analysis software, can recognize suspicious behavior and attacks on ATMs, immediately triggering the intervention of the police.

“Once again, Poste Italiane’s commitment to guaranteeing increasingly higher security standards, the provision of technologically advanced systems and the close collaboration with the police have made it possible to effectively counteract a theft attempt”.

FoggiaToday reports it.
