The Lombard Excursion Network (REL), the official list of paths, is expanding and consolidating: 15 thousand kilometers of mountain, hilly and plain routes surveyed, verified and updated with the available services. This is the picture that emerges from the Report on the evaluation clause regarding regional law n°5/2017 which established the REL for the valorization of mountain roads and paths of historical interest, approved today by the Joint Control and Evaluation Committee.
“This is a very widespread commitment that the Lombardy Region is undertaking to meet the ever-increasing requests for information related to outdoor tourism, a constantly expanding phenomenon – underlined the President of the Committee Claudio Mangiarotti (Fratelli d’Italia), who illustrated the document together with the vice-president Massimo Vizzardi (Action – Italia Viva) – The added value contained in the regional register of the Lombard hiking network is to make data verified by the Alpine Guides available to citizens and private operators”.
Characteristic of the Lombardy territory are the thematic paths, for example those of the “Great War” (160 kilometers in the border provinces along the Cadorna Line) or those relating to sites of naturalistic and sporting interest (cliffs, via ferratas) or the historical and of the “walks” (16 routes equal to 964 kilometres).
As regards the length of the routes, the predominant part is occupied by the Val Camonica mountain community (1,563 km) followed by the CM Alta Valtellina (1,312 km); for hilly and plain areas, the Province of Varese has the longest route (540 kilometres) followed by that of Lodi (416 kilometres).
