5 will remain in Tuscany – Novaradio Città Futura

MARINA DI CARRARA – The disembarkation procedures of the 64 migrants who arrived this morning at the port of Marina di Carrara (Massa Carrara) on board the Ocean Viking of the NGO SOS Mediterranee have been completed. At this moment the migrants are inside the Imm-CarraraFiere pavilions for identification procedures and health checks: among them there are 12 unaccompanied minors, all over 14 years old, none of them women. Most are from sub-Saharan Africa, with some from Bangladesh, Syria and Pakistan. Some cases of scabies reported. The prefect of Massa Carrara, Guido Aprea, specified that of the 64 migrants who arrived today only 5 will remain in the territory of Massa Carrara: 3 adults and 2 minors.

The ship entered the port around 7.15 am after a 4-day navigation, following the rescue on 8 June which took place in the southern Mediterranean in the Libyan SAR area. For the port of Marina di Carrara this is the thirteenth landing overall since 2023, the fourth of 2024. For the Ocean Viking it is the second time at the Apuan port: previously it had arrived on 30 January 2023 with 95 people on board, the first of thirteen landings in total at the port of Marina di Carrara.
