LAWN – Ilaria Bugetti, who will officially become mayor of the city in the next few hours, spoke to the press this morning at the headquarters of the Prato PD federation. At her side, the provincial secretary of the party, Marco Biagioni.

“Now the serious work begins because we must turn the ideas of the program we have given ourselves, and therefore the commitments made with the city, into government actions. We certainly do it with great strength which is that of numbers, with a PD that has strengthened.”

Once the joy of a victory that was neither easy nor obvious is over, it is time for reflection, a reflection that looks at the entire city.

“I am aware that the mayor must belong to everyone, even those who did not go to vote – states Bugetti with determination – The words that were repeated several times during the electoral campaign are precisely those of leaving no one behind”.

Now a whole series of projects must be put in place for the next few years, starting from the conclusion of those started by the previous administration, but which have not yet been completed.

“Everything – he continues – must be done carefully, in a detailed manner. I don’t rule out that there could be difficulties in a big city like Prato, but I feel all of this responsibility.”

Finally, the alliances starting from the 5 Star Movement with which there have been sparks with the Democratic Party in the past.

“When we talk about synthesis – explains Bugetti – we need to give the right space to ideas, projects and do the work that was done before, on sharing electoral programmes. Now it will also have to be done on the government program. I don’t know if it will be easy or difficult, I certainly hope for everyone’s common sense.”

Specifically, the new mayor points out that there are not only the 5 Stars, but also “other allied forces that are part of the coalition, each of which with its own dignity”.

“We are delighted with what is an extraordinary result – begins the provincial secretary Marco Biagioni –, demonstrating that here in Prato there is a strong party. This was also possible thanks to the work done by the outgoing mayor, Matteo Biffoni, who we thank for having contributed to giving an important boost to the city over the last ten years”.

This victory in the first round with an unprecedented coalition, unique in Tuscany, “makes Prato a laboratory also at a national level. At the provincial level, the Democratic Party received over 5 thousand votes more than in the 2022 elections. This means that the party, in addition to growing, is also becoming credible again. In the province we managed to elect 5 out of 5 mayoral candidates, of which three were women”.

Finally, the secretary says a few words about his non-candidacy for the city council: “I could have presented it. The choice was also a bit painful because, clearly, I accepted the risk. If we hadn’t won, I would have lost everything. I made this choice to encourage many other young people to join the city council.”
