A hidden feather. A thin, disheveled boy, a sulky look, dark blue eyes, attentive. A little girl with very blonde braids, a high-pitched voice. Tan and Rosa are eleven years old when they meet for the first time at Quercetana. In that enchanting place in the Tuscan countryside, he is the adopted son of the owners, she is the daughter of the caretakers. Tan, who arrived from Moldova, uses anger and violence to defend himself from memories of which he bears the marks. Only Rosa has access to his kingdom, and together, between games and puzzles, they build a precious intimacy. She is the only one capable of understanding him, and protecting him: the two of them, accomplices. But one day the time comes to separate. Years later, Rosa is an established ophthalmic surgeon and there is no room in her life for anything else, let alone love. Tan has tried various paths and traveled around the world, in search of himself, of the story of him uprooted by her. Meeting again at Quercetana on mid-August is magic, the looks sparkle. With an incandescent lightness to which it is impossible not to respond, the past presents itself in new guises. The happiness and shocking surprise of a completely new encounter, before having to decide whether to stay or go. Lisa Ginzburg, in this luminous story about time and the seasons of life, with a writing capable of touching, tells us about two families, two friends, two lovers, and their chiaroscuro. With Rosa and Tan we will return home, to those places of the soul where the memory resurfaces together with his demons and her sweetness. Where every encounter marks forever, never to be forgotten.

Lovely Borders will end on June 20th with the unscheduled “Amabili Confini Off”, which will host the writer Marco Malvaldi. The complete program is online on the Amabili Confini website, while the recordings of the live broadcasts will be available on the association’s Facebook page and on the Youtube channel.”
