Second day of searches for the young man who fell into the sea in Trieste

TRIESTE, 12 JUNE – The searches for the boy lost at sea in Trieste after diving between Piers III and IV, in Porto Vecchio, are concentrating in the basin, right there where the boy dived and then widened further, and will continue until at sunset. Then the situation will be reassessed, according to what was announced by the Port Authority, which is coordinating the searches themselves. These resumed only this afternoon because all the operators were busy this morning on the ship which risked sinking in front of Grado. Today, at the point where the young man jumped into the water, an area closed to the public, other boys were standing next to the sea, after having climbed over the fences that signal the area closed to the public. When they left the forbidden area they said they were Pakistanis and were sleeping in some dilapidated buildings nearby. “We didn’t know him – they said, referring to the missing young man – but everyone talks about what happened. We hope they find him. We also come here to this area often but we don’t swim because the water is high and scares us”. The missing boy is of Moroccan origin, and was in the company of some friends and a girl two nights ago. It was she who raised the alarm when she realized that her friend, who was drunk, once jumped and never resurfaced.
