How much engineering is there in everyone’s daily life? The first edition of the book starts from this question “Engineer Festival”the great event open to the community organized in the Savoy capital by the Order of Engineers of the Province of Turin and its Foundation for Friday 14th and Saturday 15th Junefrom 10.00 to 18.00.
Discovering the world of engineering
Two days to discover the (not so inaccessible) world of engineering with activities for the public in the gazebos set up along Via Roma (between Via Maria Vittoria and Via Principe Amedeo), organized by the Order’s Commissions, student teams from the Polytechnic of Turin, companies and start-ups.
The concept of the event arises from a simple observation: throughout the day, we all carry out actions which, over time, have been improved and perfected by engineering: from food preparation to waste disposal; from the use of lifts and hoists to the use of means of transport and their respective infrastructures to reach everyday places; from the fundamental systems serving our homes to the most varied technologies (last, in chronological order, artificial intelligence).
Engineers “on the streets”
What characterizes the Festival is the fact that engineers will take to the streets to meet citizens, offering content that can be enjoyed by everyone, with the aim of arousing their curiosity and bringing them closer to the world of engineering.
In fact, over the two days, there will be a packed program of free initiatives, including: the workshop “The arm and the mind: AI on the wrist”, in which participants will wear a bracelet to carry out an experience by performing certain types of movement which will be recognized by an artificial intelligence algorithm. The mini workshop “The cards of sustainability”, in which the public will be encouraged, using illustrated cards, to take a journey into the future and imagine a scenario in which one or more objectives in the UN 2030 Agenda have been achieved.
Safety training using virtual reality. The “Biomedical Rebus” training game, to discover the biomedical tech world. Starting from a survey to evaluate how prepared citizens are in fire prevention matters, it will then be possible to compare with the engineers to get clarification on the most common mistakes that can be made at home and on the best way to intervene in a fire at home. And, again, among the activities of the student teams of the Polytechnic of Turin, a vibrating platform on a Lego construction that simulates an earthquake and bridge structures in different formats will be exhibited, as well as an interactive activity for interlocking construction, with sticks of wood, Leonardo Da Vinci’s bridge. Finally, young start-ups and companies will present their projects.
Professional refresher seminars
In parallel, for engineers, professional refresher seminars at the offices of the Order and its Foundation, in via Giolitti 1.
Another peculiarity of the event is its “young figure”: the leader of the organization is in fact the Young Engineers Commission of the Order, coordinated by the Foundation Councilor Domenico Perrotta, and the guest of honor will be the Youth Network of the National Council of Engineers, involved in various activities.
The Festival will also see the prestigious participation of the President of the CNI, Angelo Domenico Perrini, and numerous Presidents of the Orders of Engineers of Italy.
