Bad weather, new orange alert in Lombardy

The wave of bad weather continues across much of Northern Italy. Violent storms hit Lombardy on Tuesday evening, in particular between the Milan area and the Varese area: strong thunderstorms and hailstorms are also expected in the region today, Wednesday. The Civil Protection has issued an orange alert for part of Lombardy and yellow for Piedmont, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Emilia Romagna and Umbria. From Thursday the bad weather will move to central Italy.

During the afternoon of today, June 12, the activation of showers and storm fronts is expected, starting from the western and southern areas, extending towards the East or North-East. Phenomena intensifying in the evening with frequent thunderstorms, even of strong intensity, moving from the western and southern plains towards the pre-Alpine areas. Possible local rainfall between 50 and 90 mm in the 12 hours is reported on the plains and Pre-Alps. Ventilation generally moderate with reinforcements from the East on the plains.

For the first part of tomorrow, June 13th, scattered showers or residual thunderstorms are expected between the night and early morning, more likely in the southern and central areas, moving towards the East. New instability expected in the afternoon with scattered showers or thunderstorms on the reliefs, and occasionally also affects the plains. The Lombardy Region Natural Risk Monitoring Functional Center will evaluate the new scenarios during the morning of Thursday 13 June for the possible issuing of alert codes valid for the second part of the day. The Municipality of Cremona has already taken steps to put the Local Police, AEM SpA and Padania Acque SpA on pre-alert so that they are ready in case of need. Citizens are invited to pay particular attention in cases where their homes are located in areas easily subject to flooding, as well as to avoid traveling with their own vehicles unless strictly necessary. The municipal Civil Protection employees are constantly monitoring the evolution of the situation.
