TRIESTE The search for the boy missing in the water between Pier III and Pier IV, in the Old Port of Trieste, continued throughout the night with Coast Guard patrol boats.
This is a 24-year-old Moroccan, asylum seeker: he threw himself from a pier in the Porto Vecchio, in one of the many abandoned areas of the port where he had gone with a group of compatriots and a girl of the same age from Trieste to party. But from that dive, the young man never resurfaced. The current, perhaps, kept him under. Or maybe the thermal shock was fatal, who knows, along with the alcohol in his blood.

Since this morning, 12 June, operations have once again been carried out in collaboration with the naval vessels of the Fire Brigade and the Financial Police.
The Coast Guard aircraft ATR42MP (Manta) based in Pescara contributed to the search with a brief overflight, but had to suspend its activity due to strong turbulence.
The Rov (remotely operated vehicle) system, made available by Saipem, also came into action mid-morning, the remotely piloted underwater vehicle that allows you to investigate the seabed.
At the same time, the Police Headquarters is investigating to better define the contours of what happened on the night between Monday and Tuesday in that corner of the old Port. There is a video that captured the scene of the dive: a video recorded by the port’s video surveillance systems.
The young people who were with the twenty-four year old, all of Moroccan origin, regular visitors to those abandoned spaces, fled when they realized that the boy was not coming back up from that dive. The emergency call was made by the girl from Trieste who was with them, who realized the gravity of the situation and asked the Army soldiers for help.
