Even if the final result is undoubtedly better, the Campania Region’s second attempt to award public contributions for the activation of sea metro connections, the summer maritime lines, with some of its main tourist destinations cannot be considered a success either.

After the first tender was unsuccessful, the second edition – launched by the organization with some substantial changes, i.e. a more generous contribution, with the activation of services only in the summer of 2024 – ended with nothing done for two of the three lots in which the procedure was divided, relating respectively to the Cilento – Capri and Sapri – Capri – Napoli Beverello sections, and to the ‘Vesuvian side’, i.e. for connections between Naples and Amalfi, with various intermediate stops.

Only one participant – namely Alicost – instead came forward for lot 1, relating to part of the services on the ‘Cilento side’, i.e. for the lines between Salerno and the Cilento coast and between the same city and the Costa d’ Amalfi. The company’s offer, which had already benefited from the contribution for some lines with Cilento in the summer of 2022, however, according to the tender commission, presents some inaccuracies with respect to the administrative documentation, which however can be remedied through preliminary investigation in the next few days.

It remains to be understood now how the Campania Region will proceed with the awarding of contributions on the abandoned lots, and whether the body will also want to take into consideration – as it did, unsuccessfully, last year – the negotiated procedure route.
