Few people remember such a high percentage. For the elections of councilors and of municipal presidents there were 6,078 invalid ballots. More specifically, in municipality 1 there were 2,250 blank ballots and 2,095 void ballots, in municipality 2 there were 1,714 and 1,670 respectively, in municipality 3 956 and 913; in municipality 4 they were 703 and 791 respectively and finally in municipality 5 they were 453 and 627. According to the story of some scrutineers it seems that there was a great confusion between the ballots of the European elections and those of the municipalities and the errors therefore led to cancel residents’ choices. This is an important number which in some cases could have also changed the results and sent other municipalities to the ballot.
Considering the data for the city councillors, however, there were 4,629 invalid cases, 20 contested cases and 2,513 blank cases. The next match is therefore for 23 and 24 June: in addition to the choice of the mayoral candidate (between Vito Leccese and Fabio Romito) the presidents of municipality 3 will also be chosen (Luisa Verdoscia and Filippo Colonna on the ballot) and of municipality 5 between Maria Morisco (Leccese) and Krizia Colaianni from the centre-right.
