The victory appeared very clear from the first results of the counting that began on Monday afternoon. Giuseppina Giovannoli immediately distanced her three opponents by definitively closing the match with a percentage of 50%. She is again mayor of Sermoneta, in her second consecutive mandate and the fourth after the position held between 2004 and 2014. With a total of 2,767 votes she doubles the consensus obtained by Antonio Di Lenola, her former Prime Minister, and distances Emanuele Agostini and Sonia Pecorilli.
The next day there is a new success to celebrate, with the official proclamation from the electoral office following the verification of the polling registers. Then, the proclamation of elected councilors, 16 this year because the city has exceeded 10 thousand inhabitants, 11 of whom are from the Giovannoli mayoral list.
«I am thrilled with the result achieved – she comments immediately, once the counting operations have been completed – A clear victory that represents the recognition of the intense work of these five years and of the teamwork together with all the candidates on the list». However, she does not hide the fact that these numbers carry a great responsibility: «The sovereign people have expressed their opinion on what they want: services, decorum, security – she adds – No political diatribes, but stability and action».
And so the mayor wastes no time and with a renewed list she is ready to start again. To clear the field of any controversy, regarding the fact that two of the mayoral candidates (Di Lenola and Pecorilli) were part of his majority, he immediately clarifies: «It’s called democracy. Everyone is free to cultivate their own aspirations and make the choices they deem most appropriate, in the end it is the citizen who decides. And Sermoneta made a clear choice, rewarding the work of the last five years but also the great teamwork that all the candidates on the list have carried out to make our program known, made up of concreteness and actions in the exclusive interest of the community and of our territory.”
Today, therefore, the councilors go from 12 to 16 and there is a new team to support the first citizen, also made up of representatives of FdI. «The elections – explains Giovannoli – brought profound changes within the municipal council, renewing 75% of the assembly. In my team I have a group made up of twelve trained and motivated councilors: two of them, Nicola Minniti and Pierluigi Torelli, are outgoing councillors, the others are all new, with different professionalism and experience and each of them will be an added value in the administration of the territory. I also want to thank those who were unable to be elected, because their contribution was also decisive in this electoral campaign. Giovannoli Mayor’s List is a civic list in which candidates have put aside their political affiliation to support an administrative project. Each candidate put their own spin on it, also thanks to their reference party, including the Brothers of Italy, whom I thank together with all those who shared and believed in our ideas.”
What convinced Sermoneta’s voters? «I am a pragmatic person, I have always faced every problem, from the smallest to the largest, putting my face to it. This is certainly a strong point – he replies – combined with the work we have done to bring new services and public works to the community, spaces for young people, green areas, investments in roads and video surveillance. I often say one thing: an administrator is first and foremost a citizen who pays taxes and demands quality services. This was the underlying theme of the council that has just ended and will be the thread of the one we are about to begin.”
In recent years Sermoneta has grown in terms of resident population and for the mayor this is a result achieved also thanks to the quality of life and services. «Now the administration will have to continue to maintain high standards, aim for the constant maintenance of parks, roads and public places and continue the process of digitalizing services. I have never stopped working because citizens need constant answers.” The priorities? The new council soon arrived, the convening of the first municipal council, the approval of projects, the conclusion of the works already started which will soon be handed over to the community.
