In the European elections, Manola Di Pasquale of the Democratic Party enjoyed an exploit: among the ranks of the opposition, she was the most voted Abruzzo citizen in our region.

He scored over 17 thousand preferences in his party, placing himself behind the only ones Antonio Decaro And Lucia Annunziata. Adding together the votes collected outside Abruzzo, Di Pasquale reaches 18 thousand. However, due to the region’s low “weight” in the constituency, they will not be enough to elect it to the European Parliament. The good performance of the Democratic Party at a regional level (just over 20 percent), is however enriched by this result, perhaps unexpected, given that the electoral campaign of Manola Di Pasquale it only started at the end of April.

Lawyer, from Teramo, born in 1965. For many years she has had a firm in Teramo and here she was a candidate for mayor (the first woman in the history of the city) and municipal councilor. You held the role of regional president of the Democratic Party. Today you are a party leader. From 2015 to 2019 you were president of the “Caporale” Zooprophylactic Institute in Abruzzo and Molise.

He tells the capital about the characteristics of a small business: “In the last days of April the leaders of the Abruzzo Democratic Party and the national secretary Elly Schlein they asked me to run for the European elections on the PD list (southern constituency) to make a contribution to the dem project. Initially I hesitated, but I didn’t want to say no to the secretary: she represented to me the importance of having an Abruzzo presence within a prestigious and very strong list. A known presence in the area, who had political experience and skills. So I emotionally welcomed this certificate of esteem from the secretary and the entire Abruzzo Democratic Party and I accepted. The times were certainly very tight: in a month we had to develop and concretely launch a difficult electoral campaign also in terms of the messages that had to be conveyed to the citizens. We know the disaffection with the polls and European issues are very difficult to capture interest”.

She thanks the voters and the party who supported her unitedly. For the European elections Manola Di Pasquale he set up, “with the support of the regional party and my staff, an electoral campaign made up of meetings and concrete questions. I visited dozens and dozens of towns and cities in Abruzzo, I held rallies in the square and meetings in clubs. I spoke with supporters and activists of the Democratic Party but also with many ordinary people with whom I created direct contact. A month without stopping, tiring but beautiful. I have pursued the issues that are dearest to me by profession and nature: rights. Europe was born as a treasure chest to safeguard and protect people’s rights after the tragedy of the Second World War and today we must work in that wake. Dall-round people’s rights that right-wing policies call into question today. I think of abortion, information, the movement of people. I turned on the spotlight on the economy which today cannot detach itself from the European context if it wants to be competitive with the rest of the world; we talked about peace, trying to make it clear that only a stronger and more cohesive Europe can give impetus to stable peace processes. We talked about the environment and here too about the need to have uniform policies in Europe to achieve the objectives. And among the issues that I pursued were those of work, of the European minimum wage, of the need for a European welfare system. Even though we have not achieved the goal of bringing Abruzzo to Europe (the progressive family of Abruzzo has not had an MEP for over twenty years) I believe that we have managed to build, and in some cases to rebuild, a direct and authentic dialogue with our people in the area. This work will not be lost.”
