Cosentino-Di Stefano runoff, Forza Italia list with most votes

Official results of the Gela 2024 local elections: the counting of the municipal elections ended without a winner, with the election of the mayor postponed to the run-off between Grazia Cosentino And Terenziano Di Stefano which will be held on Sunday 23 and Monday 24 June.

By virtue of the fact that none of the mayoral candidates obtained an absolute majority in the first round, a ballot between the two most voted which will be held in two weeks.

Gela 2024 administrative elections: dates and times

The Gela administrative elections 2024 will be held on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June regarding the first round. As mentioned, at the same time we will also vote for the European elections and in Piedmont for the regional elections.

  • Sunday 9th: from 7am to 11pm

How to vote in the administrative elections in Gela

For elect the mayor and, at the same time, the town Councilthe voter in the local elections has three voting options:

  • put an X on the symbol of the list, thus also assigning the vote to the candidate for Mayor;
  • put an X only on the name of the aspiring mayor (in this case no vote will be assigned to the list);
  • put an X on the list and write the surname of the councilor candidate you prefer.

In local elections, split voting is permitted: it means that the voter can cross out the name of the mayoral candidate he prefers and also put an X on a list that supports a different candidate.

In municipalities with over 15,000 inhabitants it is also possible to assign the double gender preference: just write the surnames of the two candidates of different sexes belonging to the same list.

The electoral law

There electoral law of local elections in Italy it is majority-based when it comes to the election of the mayor, while the distribution of councilors takes place in a proportional manner.

Being Frost a municipality with more than 15,000 inhabitants, if no candidate in the first round obtains 40% of the valid votes then a ballot between the two most voted. If there is a perfect head-to-head tie, the oldest candidate will be elected mayor.

To guarantee the formation of a solid majority and consequently substantial governability, the winning mayoral candidate will be added to the lists linked to the candidate awarded 60% of the seats; the remaining seats on the Council will then be assigned to the other lists in a proportional manner through the “D’Hondt method”.

When the seats are divided, the total number of seats will be elected 24 councilors excluding the mayor, all lists and groups of lists of candidates who have passed the threshold will be admitted barrier threshold 3% of valid votes.
