Avellino prison, another day of hell

More critical events at the Avellino prison where the penitentiary police staff had to manage a series of critical events implemented by an inmate population that had now become unmanageable, this is what the Regional Secretary of the Autonomous Penitentiary Police Union Tiziana Guacci declared and the Deputy Regional Secretary Marianna Argenio.
At approximately 2.00 pm two prisoners located in the promiscuous protected section who were in the walking area, bordering the Commander’s office, the services office and the judicial police office, staged a protest, at which basis there would be a request for transfer for personal safety. Suddenly the inmates in question began throwing stones, breaking the windows of the Commander’s office and the services office and at the same time making threats against the staff inside.
At the same time, a prisoner of Romanian origin located on the school premises, taking advantage of some broken windows, managed to get out and reach the entrance hall of the school’s guardhouse. The inmate managed to obtain a cutter with which he began to threaten the staff who intervened and attempted to attack a superintendent who, only thanks to the intervention of the prison police staff and the Deputy Commander who went to the scene, did not suffer the worst. The prisoner brought to calm, thanks also to the intervention of the Deputy Commander, reported that the reasons underlying the gesture were attributable to an immediate request for transfer.
By now the situation has gotten out of hand, even the inmates are placed in the holding room of the freshman entrance because they refuse to be allocated to the detention departments. A location that certainly cannot be defined as adequate given that it is a transit area where all the offices are present. Offices that now seem to have been targeted by the detained population who find every possible ploy to carry out acts that disrupt order and security and attack the staff present there.
But the thing that should make us reflect is the common denominator that seems to be at the basis of the acts disturbing order and security carried out by the detained population: the request for transfer for personal safety.

Sappe once again calls for active intervention on the part of the Superior Offices to restore order and security at the Avellino prison which is now worse than Dante’s hell.
Concrete solutions are needed that put an end to this continuous violence and that guarantee the safety and due serenity of work for penitentiary police personnel.
