Carrarese will play in Pisa (at least for a month and a half)

Pisa, 11 June 2024 – The Carrarese will play Serie B at the Arena Garibaldi. At least at first. Behind closed doors. With the promotion of the yellow and blues to the Cadetteria after 76 years, a problem arose for the “Dei Marmi” stadium, which was not up to standard to deal with the new category. For Carrarese-Vicenza, in fact, the mayor of Carrara Serena Arrighi had to sign an ordinance to increase the capacity, already limited, to 4606 spectators. Too few to be able to face Serie B. In fact, for the new category the minimum capacity required is 5,500 seats, for Serie C instead of 1,500. Furthermore, a whole series of specifications are missing, such as the minimum number of lux for the spotlights, but also the insufficiency of the structures used for televisions. In an emergency situation, in recent weeks there was already talk of being able to play the playoff final in Pisa, but now, after a very quick negotiation, the official announcement has arrived.

Carrarese will play the first matches of the next championship at the Arena Garibaldi. The agreement was closed in the hours immediately following the final, with a summit between the Nerazzurri club, the Carrarina club, the police headquarters and the municipal administrations. Carrarese president Manrico Gemignani had already supported this possibility on Sunday evening: “We will try to carry out the works for Dei Marmi with the support of the city council, but we hope to be able to play in Pisa at the start of the championship”. No sooner said than done. According to what emerges, Carrarese will play in Pisa for about a month and a half, until the end of September. So at least three or four home games. This should be the time necessary to allow the necessary works to be carried out to bring Dei Marmi up to standard. The Nerazzurri owners immediately expressed their willingness to help a friendly club. In fact, on Sunday at the Dei Marmi stadium in Carrara, Giovanni Corrado was also present to watch the final.

It will be played behind closed doors, with particular attention to problematic matches in terms of public order. In fact, at the time of the draw for the next championship, possible risky matches will be excluded among the parameters. Translated: no Carrarese-Spezia at the Arena Garibaldi. A necessary condition to allow you to play in Pisa.

A few months ago it was feared that even the Pisan stadium could be at risk, but instead the technical parameters, compared to last year, have undergone minimal changes, consequently the Arena Garibaldi will find itself not only hosting the matches of a team, but even two, Pisa and Carrarese. The last precedent of a friendly club being allowed to play at the Arena was in 2018 when Pisa granted the stadium to Inter to play a friendly match against the Russians Zenit St. Petersburg.
