Puglia armored in the days of G7: access blocked by land, and transit by sea blocked. And to guarantee the safety of the Heads of State and their delegations, no swimming in the sea, not even for swimmers. These are some of the provisions established by the Municipality of Brindisi and Fasano and by the Port Authority, as part of the security measures planned by the prefecture for the G7 scheduled for 13 to 15 June in Borgo Egnazia on the Fasano coast. There are three areas in particular where the alert will be maximum.

What is the G7?

The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal forum bringing together Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The European Union also participates in the Group, represented at the top by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission. This year’s It will be the 50th G7 summitand will be chaired by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and will see the participation of Pope Francis.

G7, crackdown on security: soldiers with police powers

The three zones

The three ordinances of the Port Authority concern the maritime areas of Fasano and Brindisi. For Fasano the following have been identified: the Zms (maximum security area), the Acc area (Bravo controlled access), Asa (Charlie surveillance and alarm area). The provisions must be observed from 00:01 on 10 June to 23:59 on 15 June. In the maximum security zone there is a ban on sailing, anchoring and stopping with any naval vessel and for any purpose. Furthermore, it will not be possible to dive or carry out fishing activities. The same thing applies to the Acc area, where however navigation is permitted exclusively in transit, maintaining a speed not exceeding 10 (ten) knots. Finally, in the Surveillance area, all naval units in transit must proceed with the utmost caution, maintaining continuous listening on VHF channel 16 and paying maximum attention to reports/intimations that could be addressed to them by naval units of the police forces and soldiers involved in the safety device. An ordinance signed by the lieutenant and commander of the port of Monopoli, Gennaro Moccia, also establishes a ban on swimming in the sea from 10 to 15 June in the stretch of coast between the Capitol and Torre Reeds.

Access with badge

The small seaside town of Savelletri, in the Fasano area, was most affected by the effects of the summit, a few hundred meters from Borgo Egnazia, home of the world summit. Inside the controlled access area it will be possible to access, from 1pm on 11 June to 1pm on 16 June, even with vehicles, only if in possession of badges which will be associated with natural persons and individual vehicles“. Possession of the badges will be controlled by the police force.
