Viterbo – Bottled at passers-by in via Ascenzi, exasperated traders: “I’ll close early, there’s little security”

VITERBO – Not only a fight between Saturday and Sunday, but also other episodes of violence last night, around 11pm, when two foreigners bottled and threatened passers-by in via Ascenzi, right in the historic centre.

Also in this case, as in the brawl in Piazza del Comune, the police intervened promptly, stopping two drunk foreigners who had first bottled a couple and then other passers-by.

There is growing discontent among traders and residents in the area. Interviewees report that these episodes are now “the order of the day” with some bartenders even preferring to close before 9pm to “avoid problems”.

“Fortunately the police intervened – reports a trader – but prevention should be done here. We see them all coming into the supermarket next door from morning to night to buy cases of beer and then get drunk in the alleys. Then they force us to have a cocktail in plastic cups.”

As another trader reports, some police patrols would usually be seen in the Sacrario area in the morning. “They come here with two police jeeps – he explains – they take to the square, check a bit and then leave again. It’s nice that someone is there, but you rarely see problems in the morning, they should focus more on the hours of darkness, when the square transforms.”
