Prizes awarded to high school students in Latina in memory of the learned Mario Cavallini

Award ceremony, yesterday morning, of the Awards dedicated to Doctor Cavallini. The prizes were awarded on the occasion of the Doctor’s Day organized by the Medical Association of Latina at the San Benedetto Institute, the merit prizes to the students of biomedical high schools, in memory of Dr. Mario Cavallini, the esteemed and beloved doctor of general medicine, who passed away this year. His family members wanted to donate a sum to the LILT of Latina with which the Cavallini Award, to be allocated to the four high schools in Latina which have a biomedical focus, with the aim of facilitating and introducing young people to the path of medical studies, but above all to allow them to acquire the exact concept of what being a doctor is. The choice of winners fell on the final year students who particularly distinguished themselves in their curricular average and for having developed the most valid theme based on the tracks submitted to them by a special commission. 26 students from all the high schools involved participated in the project. There were four winners, selected on the basis of the scholastic path score and the submitted essay, one for each biomedical high school.

Giulia Zorzetto of the Dante Alighieri Classical High School in Latinaaccompanied by Professor Antonio Incandela and Director Michela Zuccaro in her essay entitled“The doctor I would like to become: motivations, expectations, inspirations and projects for an increasingly current profession but above all in light of the great cultural and technological changes of this millennium”, he underlined that the figure of the doctor, in addition to practical intelligence, must be “a person with emotional intelligence”, since “the right amount of empathy is vital to establish effective communication or a relationship of mutual trust with the patient ”.

The track “Why does a young person decide to enroll in medical school in 2024? The secular age of the doctor, the economic dream, the love for research aimed at treatment? What is your point of view?” instead it was the one carried out by the other 3 winners.

Eleonora D’Auria of the Ettore Majorana Scientific High School accompanied by Professor Vanessa Tombolillo, in her paper she wrote that the choice to undertake such a demanding career could only be motivated by a great desire.

Chiara Collepardi of the Campus of the Ramadu’ high schools in Cisterna accompanied by Professor Valeria Carlino, in her essay she specified that “completely neglecting the remunerative aspect of the profession would be hypocritical, however focusing exclusively on it involves losing sight of the true essence of this profession and the risk, furthermore, that it becomes a sense of dissatisfaction in recognizing that that particular dream, especially in today’s context, will never come true”

Fabiana Scognamiglio of the LB Alberti Scientific High School of Minturno, whose award was collected by his mother accompanied by Professors Caterina Valerio and Lucia Palmieri, captured the emotional aspect of the medical profession, stating that “behind every difficulty there is always a smile of gratitude, a hand that warmly shakes his, a heart that beats with joy for having saved a life, for having alleviated a pain or for having improved the conditions of a person”

The prizes, each worth €500, were presented by the Health Director of the LILT of Latina as well as Vice President of the Medical Association of Latina Dr. Rita Salvatori, the family members of Dr. Mario Cavallini, namely his wife and two children and the President of the LILT of Latina Nicoletta D’Erme who announced theinstitutionalization of the Cavallini Prize by the LILT of Latinawhich from now on, every year, will reward the most deserving kids.

We thank the Cavallini family once again for wanting to honor the memory of their loved one by involving the LILT of Latina and investing in the future of promising young doctors.
