Europeans: 18 and 98 years old, Fabio and grandmother Carmela meet at the polling station in Legnano

When we say generations compared. At seat 9 in Legnano they voted for the renewal of the European Parliament, Fabio, 18 years old, and grandmother Carmela Borsa, 98 years old.

Since 1946, when women won the right to vote, the Legnanese woman has never once forgotten to fulfill her civic duty and right as a voter. And today you still go to the polling station on your own two feet to express your preference with satisfaction and democratically. For Fabio it is the first time at the polls his presence is an invitation to the new generations to do their part.

European elections, turnout at 15% in the Legnano area. 19% of voters for the local elections go to the polls

To vote also many new Italian citizens who after having achieved Italian citizenship with so much effort, are proud to be able to vote in the country that welcomed them and where today they feel an active part. This is the case of Aleks Vulaj, representative of the Albanian Community of Legnano: «For me, voting is very important – he tells us – at least in one of the two countries I can express myself freely and exercise the right to vote. Choosing who governs us is fundamental: we must not rely on the first “incapable” person who comes along. With these elections we also feel closer to Europe. I strongly advise my Italian-Albanian fellow citizens to express their vote democratically.”
