All of Parma is enthusiastically participating in the second time of the Festival della Lentezza in the city, organized in collaboration and with the support of the Culture Department of the Municipality of Parma, in the spaces of Piazzale San Francesco and Casa della Musica.
The morning saw an overflowing Courtyard of Honor welcoming the biographical and literary story of the most famous “middle school” professor in Italy. Enrico Galiano who, in addition to teaching in a small suburban school, writes successful novels, and is the creator of the web series “Cose da prof”, has empathetically involved students and readers by breaking away from the classroom and thinking about how to find our place in the world: always considering that “if you fly too low you die”. The event, which was opened by the words of Margherita Dolcevita by Stefano Benni, chosen by the artistic director Marco Boschini, followed Galiano’s passion for classical myths.
His Lectio told of how the basilisk learned to walk on water, of Icarus, Cyparissus and Pygmalion, up to Calvino and the team of the Voyager probe launched into space in 1977 because “myths tell a story and contain an answer” . Amid applause, he suggested that teachers and parents never give young people, who are beings in movement and change, labels or point out defects because “all of us are imperfect like pi, an irrational number that always lacks a little space to close itself. Because we are journeys, we are not destinations. Let’s think of ourselves as a noun, let’s think of ourselves as a verb to give ourselves the gift of remaining free and not stopping looking for happiness”.
