Yellow alert for risk of thunderstorms in Milan and Lombardy on Sunday 9 June

The Natural Risks Monitoring Functional Center of the Lombardy Region has issued a yellow (ordinary) criticality weather alert for thunderstorms starting from 11am tomorrow, Sunday 9 June, and will update any new alerts throughout the day.

The Municipal Operations Center (COC) of the municipal civil protection is active to coordinate any interventions.

The Civil Protection alert explains that “during today, Saturday 08/06, a westerly flow persists on the border between a cyclonic circulation over Northern Europe and an anticyclonic structure over the Mediterranean, which tends to partially give way in the evening for the approach of a depression nucleus in the main flow: in Lombardy scattered showers and thunderstorms will therefore be probable, moving from West to East over the Alps, Pre-Alps and foothills, locally intense, but with a low probability of extensive and persistent phenomena. The probability of isolated showers or thunderstorms on the plain, particularly in the west, cannot be ruled out. During tomorrow, Sunday 09/06, an increase in instability is expected: from late morning scattered showers and thunderstorms will form in the Region, initially on the hills, passing over the plains in the afternoon and further intensifying: possibility of thunderstorms strong and more organized from late afternoon and evening, with associated locally very strong gusts of wind in the central-eastern sectors, tending to weaken in the early hours of Monday”.
