Livorno – “What was Livorno missing to reach promotion? Well… the Indians were missing as coach!”. This joke, joking but up to a certain point, is probably the best business card of the new Mister Amaranth, Paolo Indiani who, on Saturday 8 June, was presented to the press and fans together with his staff. The new coach of Livorno, a big for Serie D with ten championships won, the last one two seasons ago at the helm of Arezzo, then led to the playoffs in the season of his return to Serie C.

The new coach, frank and direct, did not hide behind mincing words and immediately indicated the objective: “Livorno is Livorno and for me it is a great honor to be here. Many times when I have been here as an opponent I have asked myself if one day I would have had the chance to sit on this prestigious bench. The day has arrived and I won’t hide from you that I’m also a little excited. We will do everything we can to bring the city of Livorno back to where it deserves but we are also convinced that we can do it.”

Indiani then entered into the first details of his new adventure. “As far as the squad is concerned – he explained – the priority is that relating to the quotas. They are extremely fundamental and cannot be wrong. The fact that this year there is one less saddens me because I have always liked working and valorising young people must be guaranteed the right to make mistakes, because by making mistakes you learn, you improve and consequently you can make a greater contribution to the cause. I would be a liar if I told you that we didn’t think about it but at this moment any discussion is premature. One thing must be clear though. I want people who, when they lose, cry as a technically good footballer who doesn’t feel the honor of wearing an important shirt like that of Livorno. The important thing is that the team is ready and complete for the training camp on July 28th.”

The new Amaranth coach, who won the championship with Arezzo with 433, then also focused on the tactical aspect: “The scheme is a basis but it is not a dogma. In a match there can be many matches and if you know how to play in only one way you go not far. But I can say this: a little while ago I looked out at the pitch and seeing the lawn of our stadium, in this field, it is really better if we hold the ball for as long as possible to play the ball. on the ground and at speed”.

A comment on the delicate environmental situation that Livorno is experiencing is inevitable, with the Curva Nord and a large part of the fans in open dispute with the owners, disagreements exacerbated by the season that has just ended, disappointing to say the least: “I have enormous respect for the fans because It’s the fans who keep us going. What I can say, for my part, is that I want a team that the Livorno fans can identify with. A group that, if it can give a 6.5, fights to reach a 7. That always raises the bar. bar at an ever higher level than his possibilities. It would be nice to be an element of reconciliation. In Arezzo when I arrived there were 500 fans and I said that my goal was to win a month in advance and in front of 5 thousand people I managed, in fact, there were even more people. Here in Livorno I want to do the same thing: win a month in advance and celebrate in front of 10-15 thousand people because in Livorno the square has much larger numbers”.
