Apt, the Basilicata of “La Milanesiana” in Milan with an exhibition and a meeting on the cultural heritage of the villages

With the inauguration of an exhibition and a debate on cultural heritage starting from the presentation of an all-Lucanian book, on 10 June Basilicata will be the protagonist of “La Milanesiana”, the prestigious cultural event conceived and curated by Elisabetta Sgarbi.

Monday 10 June, at 12pm, in the Big Santa Marta Space (via Santa Marta 10, Milan) the exhibition will be inaugurated “Basilicata, a land in the clouds. Journey through comics with a Lucanian setting” curated by Giuseppe Palumbo and Andrea Plazzi, promoted and organized by the Basilicata Region and Apt.

On display are the comic strips that have been set in our region over the last 40 years, from “Viaggio a Matera” by Angelo Stano published in Intrepido in 1984, to Martin Mystere up to the 5 stories of Mickey Mouse and the last story in 4 episodes on AlterLinus on the life of Ludovico Nicola Di Gura passing through several other productions.

“From Martin Mystère to the Disney gang, passing through real-life characters such as Rocco Scotellaro or Baron Ludovico Nicola Di Gura – states the general director of Apt Basilicata, Antonio Nicoletti – with this exhibition we want to celebrate the relationship between a “real” land and its counterpart in the world of the imaginary. A land that landed among the clouds of comics, but which nourishes its beauty with real clouds and sky. Like yin and yang, a zen balance between the colors of Mother Earth and blue, a palette that transmits peace and creative energy. The exhibition Basilicata, a land in the cloudstells us a little about this extraordinary magic.”

After so much literature, so much cinema and so much art, comics have also arrived in Basilicata. He writes Elisabetta Sgarbi: “An ancient land like Basilicata saw balloons sprout and, instead of watching helplessly (and letting them die, as often happens), it cultivated them, these sprouts, which flourished and gave life to a lush garden. And in this garden of comics, authors (Giuseppe Palumbo, for example, standard bearer of this new wave), festivals, stories were born and raised. This exhibition tells the story of the relationship between a region and comics. A relationship that is already history, in fact, and which, therefore, deserves an exhibition. But an exhibition that, while in progress, declares that it is only just beginning. Because it is a story that continues, projected forward, launched into the future. Like all good stories.”

Speakers at the inauguration will be: Antonio Nicoletti, Elisabetta Sgarbi, Giuseppe Palumbo, Sara Chiappori. Giuseppina Torre’s concert will follow.

Always organized by Apt Basilicata as part of the Milanesiana and always Monday 10 June, at 6pm, will be held in the Nina Vinchi cloister of the Piccolo Teatro Paolo Grassi (via Rovello 2, Milan) a meeting entitled “The treasures of hidden villages: from Basilicata to Milan”. On this occasion, the volume produced by Apt Basilicata “Curiosities of art crossing the Lucanian villages” edited by Gabriele Scarcia.

A volume where a cultural heritage finds its scene, partly ignored by the great history of art, which often indulges in comfortable and well-known paths, rather than climbing paths that hide surprises. “The encyclopedic Scarcia, on the other hand, tells us anecdotes, stories and works preserved in that constellation of villages that is Basilicata, creating a happy alchemy between scientific rigor and the irony of a subtle narrator and thus tickling our curiosity towards territories that hide secrets to reveal. The book is a tale of tales of art, to quote a noble author who, centuries ago, transformed these lands and their characters into literary topoi later taken up by more famous international authors”.

In addition to Nicoletti and Scarcia, the following will speak: Carmen Pellegrino, Claudia Durastanti, Andrew Sean Greer (Pulitzer Prize 2018), Enrico Rotelli, Maria Sole Sanasi D’Arpe, Lucrezia Lerro.
