Ragusa, beyond therapy: a conference on non-pharmacological treatments in dementia

The new frontiers of social prescribing, a practice that allows health professionals to promote the well-being of citizens and patients, indicating services and resources present and active in the local community in which they live, at the center of the conference “Beyond therapy. Non-pharmacological treatments in dementia”. The appointment is scheduled for Saturday 15 June from 8.30 in the Avis room in Ragusa. Promoted by Chiara Savà (in the photo), coordinator of the “Così come sei” day center in Ragusa, professional educator, music therapist, professional counselor and Aba behavior technician, the in-depth event aims to create the conditions to launch this relatively new practice in health care.

“It is the result – explains Dr. Savà speaking of social prescribing – of an alliance and collaboration with multiple partners from the local community and the healthcare sector. Social prescribing is already in use in several European and non-European countries, in particular in the United Kingdom where at a local level it is an organized and well-established reality”. The conference on Saturday is very complex and will feature illustrious speakers who will be moderated by the Councilor for Social Services of the Municipality of Ragusa, Elvira Adamo. After greetings from Virginia Lo Magno, president of Afar (Ragusa Alzheimer’s family association), the mayor Giuseppe Cassì, the municipal councilor for public education Catia Pasta and Roberto Caruso Olivo, president of the Tsrm-Pstrp order of Ragusa, it will be the turn of interventions. Katia Pinto, president of the Alzheimer Italy federation, will talk about “The work of the federation: the Communities friendly project for people with dementia”, while the geriatrician Laura Vernuccio, head of the Cdcd center clinic of the Giaccone polyclinic in Palermo, will focus on ” Dementia in 2024″. Also speaking will be the psychologist Flora Inzerillo, who is also a psychotherapist, music therapist, as well as head of the psychology clinic of the Cdcd center clinic of the Giaccone polyclinic in Palermo, who will illustrate the “New concept of care and rehabilitation in dementia: from the clinic to the places of beauty in the area”. Also expected are speeches by: Carlo Vitali, president of the Ragusa Medical Association on “The role of the general practitioner in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, new perspectives”; Emanuele Ottaviano, president of the Order of Pharmacists of Ragusa, on “The role of pharmacies in favor of Alzheimer’s patients and their families”; Paola Argentino, psychiatrist but also psychotherapist as well as trainer and supervisor in counseling, who will speak on “Family caregivers: the strength of love in pain”.
