Municipal elections in Campania and the Neapolitan area

Not just the European ones. There are over 3 thousand Italian municipalities voting today and tomorrow to renew mayors and city councils. The polling stations will be open today from 3pm to 11pm and tomorrow from 7am to 11pm. In particular, the administrative elections concern 3,520 municipalities in the ordinary statute regions, 114 municipalities in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 27 in Sardinia and 37 in Sicily. In Campania there will be voting in 168 cities, of which 18 with more than 15 thousand inhabitants, with Avellino the only capital to vote.

Among the main challenges in municipalities with a population exceeding 15 thousand inhabitants, the following stand out province of Caserta those in Casal di Principe (where the anti-Camorra mayor Renato Natale leaves after ten years), Aversa and Castel Volturno: in the latter two municipalities the centre-right is divided while the Cinquestelle are running together with the Democratic Party.

In the Neapolitan some large municipalities such as Casoria, Castellammare di Stabia, Torre Annunziata and Bacoli are voting, while in the province of Salerno Capaccio, Nocera Superiore and Sarno stand out. In the province of Benevento none of the municipalities voting exceeds 15 thousand inhabitants.

At a national level, among the cities voting for the renewal of the mayor and city council there are 29 provincial capitals and six regional ones, namely Bari, Cagliari, Campobasso, Florence, Perugia and Potenza.

The possible runoff, which involves municipalities with more than 15 thousand inhabitants, will take place on Sunday 23 and Monday 24 June (the polling stations will be open from 7am to 11pm on Sunday and from 7am to 3pm on Monday). The run-off round will not concern municipalities with a population of less than 15 thousand inhabitants.

The other provincial capitals up for vote are Ascoli Piceno, Bergamo, Biella, Caltanissetta, Campobasso, Cesena, Cremona, Ferrara, Forlì, Lecce, Livorno, Modena, Pavia, Pesaro, Pescara, Prato, Reggio Emilia, Rovigo, Sassari, Urbino, Verbania, Vercelli and Vibo Valentia.

In the Neapolitan area, voting is held in Anacapri, Bacoli, Capri, Carbonara di Nola, Casandrino, Casola di Napoli, Casoria, Castellammare di Stabia, Comiziano, Crispano, Grumo Nevano, Liveri, Meta, Monte di Procida, Roccarainola, San Giuseppe Vesuviano, Sant’ Antimo, Sant’Antonio Abate, Santa Maria la Carità, Striano, Torre Annunziata, Trecase.
