Bologna at the polls for the European elections. From 3pm on Saturday 8th to 11pm on Sunday 9th June the polls will be open throughout the Metropolitan City to vote on the renewal of the European Parliament. The administrative elections that will elect the new councils are also held in 45 municipalities.

Who are the candidates

Here are the candidates belonging to the lists of the North Eastern constituency, in which 15 of the 76 Italian MEPs will be elected.

Where and when to vote

The polling stations are open on Saturday from 3pm to 11pm and on Sunday from 7am to 11pm. The section you need to go to is indicated on the voter card. Since these elections, the Municipality informs, the seat of the electoral sections numbers 36, 39, 40 and 44 is the new Carracci school, via Felice Battaglia, 18, and not the Armandi Avogli school. To vote you must show up before the polls close with a valid identity document and your voter card.

Who can vote

All Italian citizens who are already 18 years old on election day can vote, as well as citizens belonging to a European Union state who have applied in advance. For the first time, male and female students who have been away from home for at least three months and who have been temporarily domiciled in a municipality located in a region other than that of residence can also vote. In Emilia-Romagna there are 7,713 non-locals who have asked to vote, around 4,000 in Bologna. At the polling station it is also necessary to present the certificate of admission to vote requested in advance. The electoral sections dedicated to voting for non-resident students are at the Sabin scientific high school in via Matteotti and are divided in alphabetical order.

How to vote

Bologna is part of Constituency 2, called ‘North-East Constituency’, which includes the regions of Emilia Romagna, Trentino Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia, and will determine 15 of the 76 seats assigned to Italy in the European Parliament. Voters can express their preference for a specific list by making an ‘X’ on the symbol and, next to it, write the name of one or more candidates. It is important to remember that, in the case of multiple preferences, at least one of these must be for a candidate of a different sex from the others, otherwise preferences subsequent to the first will be cancelled. Separate voting is not permitted (i.e. voting for one list and simultaneously expressing a preference for a candidate belonging to a different list). The Italian electoral system is proportional and divides the seats among the competing lists in proportion to the votes received.
