The former footballer Roberto Scarnecchia spoke to TMW Radio during the Piazza Affari broadcast to talk about Milan’s moment.
Fonseca will be announced shortly at Milan. What do you think of this choice?
“Personally I would have kept Pioli, but the six derbies lost had a huge impact on the final judgement. Fonseca was a targeted choice, I liked him a lot in Rome. To replace Pioli something new was needed. With him, however, I would have continued to work in a certain way, a bit like Gasperini for Atalanta.”
What are the pillars from which we need to start again for Milan?
“Regardless, when you sell a player it’s important to replace him with another worthy player, but Theo and Leao are irreplaceable. For signings Zirkzee would be good, but he can’t replace Giroud, he’s more of a second striker. The price for him is very high, sometimes there is the frenzy in modern football to give high prices to players after just one season. One good year is enough to be called very strong, just as one bad year is enough to become poor. This is what happened with De Ketelaere. We are too quick to judge players, both positively and negatively.”
Where will Pioli end up?
“I thought he would end up in Naples, I saw him as more likely than Conte. Palladino, on the other hand, risks getting burned, he had a good year and a half. In Florence we come from the three Italian finals, I would have stayed in Monza. At this point I think Pioli will stay put, and it’s a shame because he did well in Milan.”
Camarda, on the other hand, has renewed until 2027 with Milan.
“He will have to be given space, even if he shouldn’t run too much. He is an interesting boy in an important club, but now Milan must think about a ready center forward. There aren’t many of them around anymore, football has changed and there is no longer a penalty area man.”
