Drugs and cigarettes reached the port of Bisceglie, in the north of Bari, thanks to the complicity of some local fishermen who helped import them with their boats. 13 people have been arrested (four in prison and nine under house arrest), including two women this morning and accused for various reasons of selling, offering for sale, distributing and marketing narcotic substances and importing, transporting and selling foreign manufactured tobacco of contraband. The operation, called Recover and which began in June two years ago, made it possible to ascertain a trafficking in drugs and contraband tobacco managed by the suspects.
Those arrested are mostly local people, except one who is a resident of Desio, in Lombardy. A large quantity of tobacco and drugs was seized during the investigation. The arrests were carried out by the Carabinieri of the provincial command of Barletta-Andria-Trani, supported by the specialized units of the helicopter squadron of the Puglia Carabinieri hunters, the sixth Carabinieri helicopter unit of Bari and the dog unit of Modugno and in collaboration with the Carabinieri company of Desio. The details of the investigation, coordinated by the Trani Public Prosecutor’s Office, will be made public this morning during a press conference to be held at 11:00 in the provincial command of the Carabinieri of Trani.
