Nature Day Unical: resounding success, award-winning student from the “Ciliberto” of Crotone

The long-awaited “Nature Day” took place at the University of Calabria, an event dedicated to the celebration of natural sciences and the promotion of environmental awareness. The initiative saw the enthusiastic participation of university and secondary school students, as well as teachers and enthusiasts from all over the region.

The event, moderated by Professor Emilio Sperone, saw the director of DiBEST Giuseppe Passarino present the new master’s degree course in “Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Systems”. Professor Domenico Gargano instead spoke on the topic of “Protecting plants in the era of global change”, offering food for thought and insights on the importance of conserving plant species.

The godfather of the event, Emanuele Biggi, naturalist and well-known host of the television program GEO, broadcast on RaiTre, fascinated those present with his presentation “Deserts and sea: creators of sand, brothers of life”. Biggi once again confirmed his extraordinary communication skills, arousing great interest and curiosity among the participants.

During the event, the winners of the Naturando photography competition and the winners of the regional phases of the Natural Sciences Championships were awarded, events which every year highlight the talent and dedication of young scholars. Among the winners, Andrea Napolitano, student of the 2A class of the technological branch of the Ciliberto Institute of Crotone, took third place in the category reserved for technical institutes. The awarding of the young student, a brilliant example for all his peers, also made the teachers and the entire educational community that supports him proud.

The inexhaustible commitment of Professor Sperone, who promotes events such as Nature Day to raise awareness among the new generations on the issues of sustainability and environmental conservation, has offered young students rewarding and stimulating educational experiences.

The school director Girolamo Arcuri, who authorized the initiative, was very satisfied with the podium achieved by the student and the work of the referring teachers.

See you next year, therefore, with the hope of new, great successes.
