On the night between 30 and 31 May, at the end of a stakeout and control activity which resulted in a real chase on the north lane of the A1 motorway, the State Police arrested three citizens belonging to nomadic communities respectively of Rome (one) and Alghero (two), under investigation for complicity in various capacities in the crimes of Recipe, Resistance to a Public Official, Aggravated injuries And Possession of keys and tools suitable for burglary.
The activity was born on the basis of the investigative investigations carried out by personnel of the Montevarchi Public Security Police following numerous episodes of theft which occurred in commercial establishments in the Valdarno area during the night hours and characterized by a constant, repeated modus operandi. Specifically, the investigators managed to identify the car used by the unknown criminals – who always acted misrepresented, in order to guarantee their anonymity – that is, a large-displacement, high-performance Mercedes, in which they drove away after having scored one or more hits.
The sharing of the investigative information elements that emerged from the beginning made it possible to set up a working group made up of personnel from the aforementioned police station, together with operators from the Arezzo Traffic Police Section, the Flying Squad of the Arezzo Police Headquarters and the equivalent office of the Arezzo Police Headquarters. Siena, due to similar criminal episodes that occurred in that provincial territory and in which it was suspected that the same perpetrators were involved.
The State Police team therefore managed to extrapolate a series of data relating to times and places of entry onto the motorway (with entrance in northern Lazio and exit between the Valdichiana and Valdarno toll booths), i.e. elements that made us think of a real seriality: consequently, patrolling services were agreed and organized during the times and near the toll booths of interest, in order to hook and block the car of the criminals.
There were initially some unsuccessful attempts, during which the wanted Mercedes – during the night and in the midst of ordinary traffic – escaped the pursuit of the operators, also resorting to illegal and decidedly dangerous methods, such as the use of fire extinguishers powder aimed towards the police cars that were following at high speed and the subsequent throwing of the same towards the patrols, with the intention of hitting the latter and sending them off the road.
Instead, on the night between 30 and 31 May, after careful preparatory activity consisting in the creation of a narrowing of the motorway, at the end of which a patrol was already positioned ready to intervene, the police managed to catch the gang : the Mercedes driver, who found himself in a funnel, suddenly put into reverse to try to open an escape route and collided with the nearest traffic police car, causing significant damage to both cars.
Following the collision, the Mercedes was no longer able to continue and therefore the six people on board suddenly got out, abandoning it and attempting to escape on foot.
The police personnel, in turn, got out of the service vehicles and began chasing them. While three of the criminals climbed over the New Jersey concrete divider and crossed the other roadway on foot to escape into the fields, the other three, despite putting up strenuous resistance, were blocked by police officers and arrested.
The alleged crimes flagrantly to the three captured subjects, aged 45, 29 and 22 – all with numerous precedents for predatory crimes – are Resistance to a Public Official, Aggravated injuries And Possession of keys and tools suitable for burglary; furthermore, following investigations on the car used by them, it emerged that it was traveling with a cloned license plate belonging to another Mercedes of the same model, in order not to be traceable, but in reality it was a car subject to Armed robbery, which occurred a few months earlier on the outskirts of a large city in southern Italy; consequently, they were investigated for Recipe.
Inside the Mercedes, subjected to seizure, countless instruments and tools suitable for burglary were found seized, including those of considerable technical level and high value, probably used by criminals during the previous nights of raids in Tuscan and Valdarno territory in particular. way.
During the action aimed at blocking and securing the fugitives, one of the police officers who intervened suffered injuries to his head and body for a 25-day prognosis.
As a result of the photographic reporting and drafting of documents, the three arrested, on the orders of the PM on duty of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Arezzo, were taken to prison, at the disposal of the competent AG. Last Monday 3 June , at the end of the hearing in front of the GIP, the arrests were validated and the precautionary custody in prison against the three suspects.
Further investigations are underway by the State Police offices involved, in order to better outline and identify the criminal episodes which are the subject of the investigative activity in question, under the coordination of the Arezzo Public Prosecutor’s Office which has taken over the direction of the investigations.
