Bologna, false tax returns. The former headquarters of a Caf confiscated

Bologna, 7 June 2024 – The former headquarters of a Caf (Tax Assistance Centre) in the province of Bologna was confiscated following the sentencing of its owner to 30 months in prison for tax fraud committed, between 2012 and 2016, in favor of around a thousand taxpayers. The property has a commercial value of approximately 100 thousand euros.

The provision comes at the end of an operation that made it possible to report 66 people for undue receipts of payments to the detriment of the State and to identify about a thousand unfaithful tax returns, submitted or already completed and waiting to be sent toRevenue Agencyaimed at benefiting from tax credits not due.

The Caf manager, in exchange for compensation, would have facilitated the practices of numerous customers, allowing them to receive undue Irpef credits, liquidated in over two million euros, through the circumvention for years (since 2012) of the IT system for ‘automated control’ of tax returns.

The investigation, at the time coordinated by the Bologna Prosecutor’s Office and conducted by the Treviso Financial Policehad allowed the entire fraud mechanism to be revealed and also to obtain thecancellation of over three hundred 730 models, presented with the indication of almost one million euros of Irpef credits not due, which thus were not paid.

The suspects, all foreign citizens residing throughout the national territory, with the compliance of the Caf, had resorted to various expedients, such as the indication of non-existent tax credits, of other dependent family members residing abroad and without a code tax, deductions for non-existing children in pre-adoptive foster care, including disabled children.

In light of the seriousness of the facts and the continuity with which the offenses had been committed, the judicial authority had ordered the emergency preventive seizure of the property against the head of the Caf, ‘mastermind’ and ‘instigator’ of the criminal conduct headquarters of the Tax Assistance Center, provision to which now the definitive confiscation has followed.

“The service activity of the Treviso Financial Police, developed to combat crimes in the public spending sector, demonstrates the importance of combating tax fraud – comment the Fiamme Gialle – attacking those responsible also on a financial level, as in this case, in which the property was stolen from the perpetrator of the fraud, now passed to the Bologna State Property Agency, which may use it for public purposes or sell it”.
