ANCONA – «With 400 euros a month, I either choose to eat or I choose to pay utilities. We can’t make a living like this anymore, I need a job.” A desperate appeal, that of Giorgio Sbacco, 58 years old from Ancona, with a 67% disability and without a job since 2011.

Following him, from time to time, would be the Services social of the Doric municipality, but – he says – «the aid is not that consistent and I’m stuck between rent And bills. I can only get by thanks to my wife’s 400 euros a month from an internship. Shall I accompany him? A higher degree of disability is needed for those subsidies”, she specifies.
«Until 2011 – he says – I worked as a courier on behalf of aagency of the territoryI moved between the city and theairport. I had a fixed-term contract, but then the cooperative I worked for was absorbed by another company and my position was lost. Since February 2012, I have not had a job or anything, which is why the Social Services have been following me for a long time, who pay my bills. The last time I worked was around 2015when I took care of the sweeping”, he underlines.

The last bill that arrived to Giorgio, who lives in the public housing in via Ruggeri, is for 1700 euros: «I opted for the deferral and the social services will give me 345 euros. Every month – he continues – I go to get the food package from Caritas, which contains bread, oil and everything else.” Sometimes some neighbors also help him.
And again: «I have the third average and I’m willing to do anything to not end up on paved. I don’t want a government job – she reiterates – all I need is a very ordinary job that can allow me to get by. Get on with 400 EUR per month is unthinkable nowadays.”
