MODICA – July 1st will become a significant date for the city. In fact, the city’s public transport, after decades of management by the Sicilian transport company, will begin new era of the service managed by Sais. In recent days, a press conference was held, entitled “Modica moves” in which the municipal administration illustrated the new city mobility project together with the Sais leaders.

New era for public transport in Modica

Mayor Maria Monisteri presented the objectives of the new season of public transport in Modica together with Antonio Drago, councilor for mobility. Also present at the table were Ignazio Abbate, regional deputy, Vincenzo Asaro director of Sais and Davide Mangerini Project manager Its Autorute. The councilor Antonio Drago, who in recent months has worked on the new urban service, spoke to the Quotidiano di Sicilia: “Until today – explained the representative of the Monisteri council – those who used public transport did so because they were forced to have no other alternatives, we instead want it to become a plausible option to travel by public transport. To do this, many interventions have been implemented.”

Public transport, ten new latest generation buses

Specifically, the new public transport will have a very strong component of technological innovationusers will have a support app, with an artificial intelligence system that in addition to indicating the useful info on the races he will also give advice on what to do in the city. “We also looked – added Drago – at the component of sustainabilitybecause today more than ever we cannot fail to talk about sustainable mobility, so there will all be new generation buses which will also be accessible with platform for people with disabilities”. So in addition to sustainability, the County city looks to inclusiveness, guaranteeing easy access to buses for everyone. The new service entrusted, as mentioned, to Sais, a company that already operates in local public transport in Syracuse, Enna and Milazzo. The company will manage the service for the next 24 months, it will cost the Municipality €1,528,547.13. Ten latest generation buses will take to the field, including supplies. Initially the company will manage the existing lines, while guaranteeing one greater frequency of trips than in the past. During the press conference it was assured that the cost of the ticket will remain unchanged at €1.20. Only two new features: the strong technological component of the fleet and the creation of a summer line that it will connect the city to the seaside villages of Marina and Maganuco.

“This line – explained Drago – was strongly supported by the Administration also for a question of safety, in fact the service will be available until late at night to allow, especially children, to reach the seaside village in safety”. A new era, in short, for public transport which is preparing to be more attractive, a plausible option as the branch councilor defined it in the press conference. Furthermore, for the first time the Municipality will equip itself with management software that will analyze the performance of the service. This will allow us to understand the service and thus intervene for improvement. Extremely confident too the mayor of Modica, Maria Monisteriaccording to which this is an important change for mobility.

“We had promised redevelopment strategies and – stated the first citizen – the urban public transport service is one of these. The quality, professionalism and tradition of the Sais company with its service will ensure that the traffic problem in the city and beyond will be resolved and I am sure that all citizens will welcome this change which will make our daily lives easier”. The city of the County is thus emerging from the Middle Ages of public transport, heading at rapid speed towards a technological and different approach. Sais for its part is committed to ensuring a comfortable service, in which the “modal shift” is not a utopia but the vision that animates the project. The aim is to improve and change the way citizens travel.
