Panigada brings PFAS to the Chamber “Our alarms are unheard”

LUCCA

Pfas were discussed at Palazzo San Macuto, the library of the Chamber of Deputies, in a conference organized by Greenpeace and the M5S group. Also participating in the initiative was Tommaso Panigada, a Lucchese representative of the “Senzaconfini” association, already a guest of the Rai3 program Presadiretta hosted by Riccardo Iacona where the topic of the presence of these substances was discussed – also for the Lucca paper district. chemicals detected almost everywhere, which over time accumulate in the environment and in humans.

“It was important to participate in the conference – says the representative of the Lucca association which is very active on the “no” front to road axes – after having read the news in 2023 of a study produced by university circles in Florida, which attested to the presence of PFAS in all the toilet paper samples analysed, from Lucca, land of paper mills and rich in good water, we proposed to committees and entities present in the tanning and textile centers with which we are networked in the Tuscan forum of movements on water, to use the document access procedure to request timely analyzes of the purified wastewater from the consortil plants; we also requested the analyzes relating to the sludge generated by purifying the waste water because we are convinced that the use of these substances is known and practiced by decades, for a series of reasons linked to productivity as well as to the effects on the finished product in a regulatory regime that allows it”. Panigada continues: “After the Tuscan Greenpeace report and the work of the Presa Diretta editorial team, in recent months we expected that the institutions and companies of the water service, as well as the public-private industrial consortia that manage the purification batches, would take action by providing more detailed analyzes capable of confirming or denying what was published by Greenpeace, also entering the wells in the areas most at risk, but none of this has happened”.

The exponent of “Senzaconfini” issues a warning: “It is necessary to act on the production cycles by modifying their structure through alternative practices as has already happened for years in environments in the Prato textile district; we are convinced that only by changing the relevant legislation and acting on the production cycles , it is possible to defend the environment, work, income and life but the doubts about the quality of the water aquifers for drinking purposes present in Tuscany must be immediately cleared up in Tuscany”.
