TERAMO – An original and unusual ending for the children of the San Berardo school, to say goodbye to another school year concluded successfully. The space in front of the school has become “The garden of forgotten games”, a place created with the imagination and authenticity of children to remember and relive the games of the past: the hopscotch, the slingshot, the tug of war, the race of bags, the 4 cantons! During the course, each child illustrated one of the games prepared, inviting friends, teachers, grandparents and parents to participate. Precisely those parents and grandparents who spent entire days entertaining their classmates, perhaps under the street of their house or in a cellar or why not, in the beautiful greenery of the countryside. In the “Garden of forgotten games”, today, no tablet, no mobile phone, no device of those which now steal time and perhaps even carefreeness from the children of this generation so attracted by digital. The scenario witnessed took all those present back in time into an atmosphere of almost unreality. Then, to move parents, grandparents, teachers and friends, the school choir performed, directed by teacher Elsa Di Ferdinando, with a song entitled “The games of the past”. Finally, the sound of Fabrizio Medori’s guitar who shared songs from the 70s and 80s with the young students. A merry-go-round of voices, clapping of hands, laughter, jumping that undoubtedly left a great message to everyone, especially to the little ones: there is no past time that cannot return to stop the present and make us all relive different emotions together but full of history, traditions, culture. All this would not have been possible without the preparatory work carried out by the teachers of the second, third and fourth grades, not only through watching videos but also with the graphic reproduction of the “ancient” games and finally with the laboratory activities aimed at building the games themselves. The “Garden of forgotten games” represented an important outdoor learning experience, an opportunity to rediscover nature and grow social and cognitive skills.
