In Vittoria, in summer it is forbidden to cut hair in the afternoon. A union order, issued in recent days, decrees the summer opening hours of hairdressers, stylists and beauticians in the period between the second Monday of July and the end of August.
From Tuesday to Friday, hairdressers and beauticians will only carry out morning work, opening from 8am to 2pm. On Saturdays, however, they will also be open in the afternoon.
The ordinance applies only to Vittoria. In Scoglitti, a tourist resort which dramatically increases its population during the summer weeks, hairdressers will be open all day.
The ordinance, in reality, is nothing new. It was issued, in accordance with the categories, in 2004 and applied every year.
The trade associations ask to be consulted
This year, however, the council decided to reiterate it, sparking reactions and comments. Even at the CNA the ordinance was greeted with a certain discontent. The trade association would have preferred to be convened by the mayor.
“There is nothing new, I have not changed the previous ordinances one iota – explains Mayor Francesco Aiello – so there was no reason to convene. If the trade associations have different requests or opinions they will let us know and we will listen to them.”
In the background, some recent situations that would have occurred: the discontent and protests of some citizens due to the presence of a hairdressing business, recently opened in the historic center, whose working hours extend into the night and where there would be loud music and disturbance of the peace.
Reissuing the 2004 ordinance, even without modifications, is equivalent to reiterating the established rules.
