Lamezia, “I Care” study help service concluded in the library

Lamezia Terme – With the imminent end of the school year, the service has ended I Care in the municipal library, a service promoted and implemented by the Permanent Observatory for School Inclusion (OPIS), named after the late “Antonio Saffioti” and established on the initiative of Professor Giorgia Gargano, as part of the extensive activities carried out by the Councilor for Culture. “I love” translates into “I take care”, a synthetic expression which corresponds to a varied offer of study help services to encourage the integration and support of students and families.

“In this school year – writes the councilor for Public Education and Culture of the Municipality of Lamezia Terme, Annalisa Spinelli, in a note – approximately fifty students were followed every afternoon the library was open by a team of over twenty volunteer teachers , some retired and others still in service, who have made their time, energy and spirit of initiative available to the community. A beautiful page of inclusion, solidarity, of a concrete and operational spirit, of responsible citizenship. The study help made it possible to build significant relationships, because any scholastic gap to be filled was only the starting point of a broader project, the purpose of which is the encounter with the other, being and ‘operate as an educating community that takes care and takes on responsibilities together. I feel I must express, therefore, on behalf of the entire Municipal Administration, heartfelt thanks to the members of the Observatory’s management, to the volunteer teachers of I Care, to all those who allowed the free service to take place in the best possible way, starting with the Head of the Municipal Library Vittoria Paonessa, continuing with all the library operators and the young people in the civil service. The meeting with the members of the Observatory was one of the first actions I carried out as new Councilor for Culture and Public Education”.

“On several occasions – he concludes – I have had the opportunity to directly experience the precious work carried out in the Library, noting the commitment, passion and dedication shown in training, integrating and educating our students. It is a testimony of love for the community, of an authentic spirit of service and humanity, which is increasingly needed to positively infect young people and free them from the false myths and disvalues that threaten contemporary society. It is my firm intention, therefore, to continue on the path traced by those who preceded me and support the continuation of the activities of the Permanent Observatory for School Inclusion, which is truly a flagship for our beloved City”.
