The MM Motorsport crew reaches the PRO-AM podium already in the third race of the difficult 2024 Italian GT Cup Championship

IMOLA – Three races were enough for Rosario Messina and Mattia Raffetti to get on the podium of the Italian GT Cup Championship. The two 18-year-olds fielded by MM Motorsport took third place PRO-AM at the end of a spectacular Race 1, which saw the Lamborghini Huracan ST EVO II of the team directed by Emanuele Alborghetti and Gianna Aiello took fourth place overall under the checkered flag.

Seventh – out of over 30 cars – in the first free session, the very young MM Motorsport crew then confirmed their position in qualifying, where Raffetti took sixth position, while Messina was seventh, at the end of a hectic session. The masterpiece then came in Race 1, when Messina, having started in his best form, immediately moved into fifth position and climbed up to fourth before handing over to his teammate. The perfect pit by the team from Bergamo brought Raffetti to second place, with the driver from Capo di Ponte doing well to keep a place on the overall podium until the last lap. The 18-year-old raced intelligently without ever taking excessive risks, but was forced to leave the position a few corners from the finish line, finishing fourth overall.

A calculated ‘sacrifice’, which still allows them to hold onto third place in the difficult PRO-AM ranking. Thus comes the first podium of the season for Messina and Raffetti, an incredible result for the two 18 year olds who had only made their debut on a GT in the previous weekend in Misano. A decidedly lively race 2 saw the safety car as the main protagonist of the race, preventing the MM Motorsport crew from getting into the right rhythm and doing better than an excellent tenth overall position which allowed the duo to enter the Top10 of the general championship standings .

All the spectacle of the Italian Gran Turismo Sprint Championship returns after the summer break to Mugello, on the weekend of August 25th.
