The wide sidewalk along the navigable canal of Taranto, during the summer evenings, will not only be a place for walking and admiring the Aragonese Castle, the historic center and the sunsets, but will also be able to accommodate chairs and tables of restaurants, pubs and ice cream parlors of the area. The municipal council, led by mayor Rinaldo Melucci, approved a resolution on the proposal of the deputy mayor and councilor Gianni Azzaro, allowing the premises on Corso Due Mari to set up removable furnishings every evening until September 30th, from 7.00 pm to 12.00 am.

This decision is part of the municipal administration’s initiatives to support local economic development and regulate the use of public land, ensuring compliance with current regulations. To ensure safety and hygiene, every evening from 9.00 pm to midnight a temporary pedestrian area will be established on two sections of Corso Due Mari: between Via Pitagora and Via Matteotti, and between Via Matteotti and Via D’Aquino. Vehicle traffic will also be temporarily suspended in the affected areas.

“The resolution reflects our commitment to enhance the urban heritage and improve the commercial offer for citizens and tourists, guaranteeing the safety of people with the establishment of the pedestrian area”, declared Mayor Melucci. “We are working to make Taranto an increasingly attractive, sustainable and inclusive city.”

Deputy Mayor Azzaro added: “We have responded to the needs of commercial activities and citizens who remain in the city during the summer. We are studying further innovations to enrich the calendar of summer events in collaboration with the Councilor for Culture, Lussoso, to diversify and expand the tourist offer.”
