Anti-drug blitz in Rome: Colafigli, former Banda della Magliana, arrested

Rome, 4 June. (askanews) – Maxi operation by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of Rome, delegated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Capitoline Prosecutor’s Office between the provinces of Rome, Naples, Foggia and Viterbo: 28 precautionary measures ordered (11 in prison, 16 under house arrest and an obligation to sign) with charges, for various reasons, of association for the purpose of international drug trafficking, attempted robbery in conspiracy, attempted extortion in conspiracy, receiving stolen goods and illegal possession of weapons, failure to comply with the sentence and aiding and abetting. Among those arrested there is also Marcello (known as “Marcellone”) Colafigli, 70 years old, one of the historical promoters of the “Banda della Magliana”. Burdened with several life sentences, he had been convicted, among other things, for the kidnapping and murder of Duke Massimo Grazioli Lante della Rovere (considered the action with which the Gang began its criminal activity) and the murder, as principal, by Enrico De Pedis. The investigations made it possible to gather serious circumstantial elements regarding a criminal group, with a logistical base in Rome, operating in the Magliana area and on the Lazio coast, led by Colafigli. According to the investigators, the former member of the Gang, despite being on semi-freedom, had managed to plan the sale and purchase of large quantities of drugs from abroad (Spain and Colombia), maintaining relationships with exponents of the ‘Ndrangheta, the Camorra, the Foggia mafia and with Albanians included in a South American narcos cartel.
