more trains for the Romagna Riviera Gazzetta di Modena

BOLOGNA. Summer by train: more connections to the sea, new intermodal services to move more comfortably and sustainably, reaching the cities of art more easily. And the debut of through connections serving the Bologna metropolitan area.

These are some of the main innovations and confirmations of the regional programming of Trenitalia Tper, created with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region, which will come into force from Sunday 9 June with the new summer timetable, already available for consultation on the Trenitalia Tper and Trenitalia purchasing systems.

The summer offer for the Romagna Riviera confirms and integrates all the additional regional trains proposed last year according to a program that touches all the locations from the Ravenna beaches to the city of Fellini. Up to 140 trips per day to and from Rimini, touching all locations with peaks of 5 trains per hour between the Emilian capital and the Romagna city and 80 thousand seats; in particular, up to 103 trains connect Bologna and Rimini, 30 of which have connections via Ravenna. The Rock trains return from Piedmont and Veneto to connect the main cities of the two regions to the beaches of the Romagna Riviera (eight trips at the weekend). And the Orobica Line is confirmed which this year will originate/destinate from Brescia (and not from Bergamo due to work on the route). Finally, six more trains have been scheduled on public holidays on the Bologna-Ravenna-Rimini line.

An offer that is completed with discounted price promotions, always available on the Trenitalia Tper purchasing systems, for those traveling with family or friends and discounted train+bus combinations to reach the amusement parks on the Riviera and in the Apennines or the Ferrari Museum in the heart of the Motor Valley.

Also from 9 June, the Bolognese metropolitan railway service debuts with new routes and fewer train changes, increasing the offer and more easily connecting the east to the west area of the city, the capital to the mountains. For its construction, the Region invested 5.6 million euros per year, as part of an agreement with the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Bologna. The service was planned together with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the infrastructure manager, and Trenitalia Tper, which will operate it with its new Rock and Pop trains.

The summer will also be a time for work on some routes in the Bologna and Modena areas, to adapt the tunnels and restore the infrastructure damaged by the flood of May 2023. The trains will be replaced by buses to minimize inconvenience.

The overall strengthening of the railway service aims to respond to the needs of citizens and tourists: last year over 44 million passengers traveled on Trenitalia Tper regional trains, of which 10 million in the summer alone with an increase in those who chose the train to reach holiday places equal to 4.4% compared to the pre-Covid period. Overall in 2023, passengers who chose the train increased by +12.3% compared to the previous year.

Data that confirms the Region’s strategy, in line with the Integrated Infrastructure and Transport Plan (PRIT) and with the Pact for Work and the Climate, to increasingly increase the number of people who choose the train to move even in holiday periods, thus reducing road traffic and pollution to make mobility in Emilia-Romagna increasingly sustainable.
