Woman killed after argument, Brindisi prosecutor orders autopsy

The victim’s brother-in-law has been in prison since Sunday 26 May

The Brindisi Prosecutor’s Office has ordered an autopsy for Irene Margherito, the 47-year-old who died last Monday in the ‘Perrino’ hospital after being hit by a bullet in the head 24 hours earlier at the height of a family dispute along the coplanar highway 7 between Mesagne and Brindisi. The assignment of the task to carry out the autopsy examination will be formalized next Wednesday, and it is not excluded that it may already be carried out on the same date. In prison for the death of the 47-year-old is her brother-in-law, 55-year-old Adamo Sardella. The man is accused of voluntary homicide aggravated by frivolous motives, attempted murder of the victim’s partner and illegal possession of a firearm. The investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident are coordinated by the Brindisi Prosecutor’s Office and conducted by agents from the Mesagne police station and the Brindisi flying squad. On Sunday 26 May, the 47-year-old, together with her partner, met Sardella who arrived at the meeting place together with the victim’s son. For some time – according to what emerged in this phase of the investigation – there had been grudges and arguments between the two families, which degenerated to the point of the explosion of gunshots. Following the investigations carried out in this first phase, the victim’s partner was reported to be free for illegal possession of objects capable of offending, after a katana, i.e. a model of Japanese sword, was found in his car at the scene of the dispute.
