ANCONA The imbalance is inherent in the macroscopic data: a third of the Port System Authority’s investments are concentrated on the ports under Abruzzo’s jurisdiction. Geolocating the figure, 108 million euros will be allocated to Ortona, Pescara and Vasto. On the Marche front, the whole of Ancona-Falconara, which is worth two, Pesaro and San Benedetto, will go to 253 million euros. Proceeding further, the gulf dominated by the majestic Cathedral of San Ciriaco should remain in the pipeline for just under 200 million. A reiteration of the disproportion: the one which, in the “group of seven”, stands out for being the productive reference of the regional economy and the nucleus of the European Scandinavian-Mediterranean and Baltic-Adriatic Corridors, which generates 99% of passenger traffic and the 90% of that of goods, manages to drain just over half of the resources allocated to the system, all of it. Always following the iron logic of numbers, and taking 2021 as the typical year, the revenues of the Doric port were 8.5 million out of the 10.5 million of the entire interregional organization. The gear replicates its motion: the redistribution of profits follows the 70-30 criterion, the first figure refers to Ancona, the second to the rest of the ports, with the residual weight. The figures
Entering into the folds, to the dredging chapter, i.e. increasing the depth of the seabed, the key element to allow access to large ships, under penalty of overtaking Ravenna, in the port of Ancona with an investment of 12 million the aim is to improve competitiveness. The president of the Authority Vincenzo Garofalo doubles the effect it has: «Tomorrow (today, ed.) a meeting is scheduled in the Region since the sediments are found to be adequate for nourishment works». He goes further: «While waiting for environmental authorizations, the war cleanup is being contracted. Excavation is also planned to adapt the seabed to minus 14 meters in front of the first section of the straight quay”. And there are another 4.5 million, but time is running out. Another round: the square on Molo Clementino which, according to plans, should become the terminal for large ships. 350 meters long, electrified, with 22 million euros from the national fund available and the corollary of a project financing with MSC, it will be done. As long as the ministry gives the OK. The opinion of the Doric Municipality is no longer a barrage of fire. The process proceeds. While waiting for that work to be completed, under the Cathedral, next to the Arch of Trajan, a new cruise terminal is being planned, at platform 15: there are 3 million euros on the table. It will be innovative and very sustainable, but above all it will be the demonstration that what should be reflected in the Fincantieri basin will not be a quick deal. The president corrects his approach: «It will be a necessary adjustment, which will also be useful in the future». Nothing goes to waste. Such as the paving of docks 19, 20, 21, preparatory to the movement of ferries from the ancient port, an operation already in the process of awarding the works. Another issue on the horizon: without a pier or a landing stage, or a brick to be built, which would require a variation of the master plan and an expansion of the intervention, boats will not be able to moor. Garofalo tries to clear the fog and silence the detractors: “We are already thinking about the possibility of a pontoon.” He speeds up.
The rest of the ports
Changing perspective, and specific weight, 11 million are reserved in Pesaro to create a refill basin for dredging sediments. A work for which the process for the approval of the technical-functional adaptation is underway at the Superior Council of Public Works. The same goes for San Benedetto, only the figure varies, which rises to 18 million. Crossing the border and placing the bar on Ortona, the second part, for 1.5 million, of the reconstruction of the profile of the cliff of the north pier is being completed. In Pescara, after the lighting of the southern quay area, with 350 thousand euros, the executive planning of the review of the video surveillance system is now underway, for one million. Focusing on Vasto, the last piece of the mosaic, here is the consolidation plan of the northern quay, for one million euros, and the lengthening of the breakwater and the expansion of the eastern square, for 25 million. Garofalo takes stock and resets the scenario: «I don’t agree with the concept of imbalance: Ancona has always been the recipient of resources, the other airports have not. It’s the first time in many years that they have received them.” Dissonances in the “group of seven”.
