Traditionally, Corpus Domini, a deeply felt solemnity for the Catholic faithful, has always been celebrated in Modica in the city hall in Corso Umberto.
This year the priests of Modica have decided to change the tradition. The choice shared by the Modica presbytery is to enhance all parts of the city and this year it was chosen to celebrate the evening mass before the procession at the Collegiate Parish of San Giovanni Evangelista, then from there the procession wound through the neighborhood of Modica Alta.
There were three significant stages of this very popular procession, in fact all the parishes of the vicariate were present, including those in the countryside, there were three moments of prayer, one at the True Cross, one under the statue of Mary Help of Christians near the Pala Scherma and one at the home of Nino Baglieri. The procession then ended in the Salesian courtyard in Modica Alta, packed beyond belief.
Fra Antonello Abbate, current vicar forane of the city, presided over the celebration and the procession immediately followed.
Finally, yesterday’s celebration also officially launched at the vicarial level the celebrations for the 180th anniversary of the foundation of the Diocese of Noto, which will include the Preregrinatio Mariae in the coming months among its significant moments.
