On the eve of Wimbledon 2024, the main protagonists of world tennis shared their expectations and feelings.

Carlos Alcarazreigning champion, says he is ready despite the early defeat at Queen’s: “I feel very good. After Queen’s I had many days to adapt my game and improve. I think I’m ready to start the tournament.” The Spaniard is aiming for a historic result: “I want to write my name in the short list of winners of Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year.”

Iga Swiatekworld number one, faces Wimbledon without any preparatory tournaments on grass: “It’s a very complicated tournament, you can’t build your form to reach the top level here. I need to focus on the process of becoming a better player on this surface.” The Pole underlines the importance of mental adaptation: “The player who adapts best will win.”

Jannik Sinnerthe top seed, is confident: “I’m very happy to be back here, a very special tournament is coming up. Last year I reached the semifinals, so I know I can play good tennis on this surface.” The Italian particularly enjoys best-of-five-set matches: “They’re fun because you can change the dynamics on more occasions. You see more emotions, even physical problems.”

On his preparation for Wimbledon: “After Paris I took a few days off and then I went back to work. There are no secrets. I feel much better physically than at the beginning of Roland Garros, where I arrived with doubts. We worked a lot in the last few days. I am ready to compete.”

On what he loves most about tennis: “I am very lucky because I started tennis as a hobby and now it has become a job. In my mind it remains a hobby. I love going out on the field and just playing. I think there are no negative aspects. I know how much I have sacrificed to be in the position I am in. It’s always an honor to take the field. I think this is one of the reasons why I love tennis, I don’t take anything for granted.”
