Eta beta from Viterbo Odv participates with its athletes in the ‘Play the Games’ in Tivoli

Pride for the ASD ‘Swimming Smiles’. Thanks to the Air Force Marshals School: making the swimming pool available

VITERBO – From May 31st to June 2nd took place in Tivoli, in the province of Rome, i “Play The Games” by Swimming Special Olympics Italia who, this year, have seen beyond 500 athletes from 34 Delegations coming from Lazio, Umbria, Tuscany and Sardinia, to compare the various distances and styles, in an event as always sports festival.

A cheering “army” of approx 1,000 people including athletes, technicians, companions, volunteers and family membershave invaded the small town in Lazio, bringing a little chaos, but also a lot of joy.

The opening ceremony, which took place on Saturday evening in the splendid setting ofRoman amphitheater of Blesoat the foot of the Rocca Pia, with the Deputy present Mayor of Tivoli Laura Di Giuseppethe Mayor of Guidonia Montecelio Mauro Battisti, the ANCI representative Marina Battisti, the Vice President Special Olympics Italy Alessandro Palazzotti, the SOI National Director Alessandra Palazzotti, the Regional Director Special Olympics Italy Stefania Cardenia, the Regional Vice President Paralympic Committee Giuseppe Andreana, the Deputy Vice President of the Italian Billiards and Bowling Federation Cosimo Zecca, and many other local and regional authorities, lived moments of great emotion, in particular for the arrival of the Olympic torchand for the Oath ofSpecial Olympics athlete, pronounced by Giada Nunziante.

Four gold medals, two silver and eight bronze the final medal table of the Tuscia team, with some truly noteworthy individual performances.

The first day of the finals, Saturday, featured the multiple national and world champion and Games veteran Martina Casagrande win the 25 meter backstroke, followed by Marta Troili who, competing for the first time in the 50 meter freestyle distance, imposed herself in her heat, with an excellent chronometric result. Another gold came from Giorgio SERAFINI, also competing for the first time in the 50 meter freestyle distance, confirming the excellent work done by Technical Staff, directed by Technical Coordinator Rodolfo Valentino.

The day continued with the silvers of Stefano Vagnoni in the 50 meter freestyle, by Seraphim in the 25 meter backstroke, and the bronze medals of Maria Celeste Carnassale, Alessandro Bartoloni and Troili in the 25 meter backstroke and di Simone Ramacciani in the 50 freestyle.

On the second day of the finals, Sunday, the gold came from the splendid 4X25 meter women’s freestyle relay with Troili, Casagrande, Viviana Cozzani and Sara Franchi, who with this result made her sporting debut in Special Olympics competitions exciting. Added to this incredible result were the bronze medals of Roberto Ricci in the 25 meters dolphin, of Gianmarco Costantini (with a time improvement of over 10 seconds) and Bartoloni in the 25 meter freestyle and the 4X25 meter freestyle men’s relay with Costantini, Vagnoni, Bartoloni and Carnassale.

Collector of “wooden medals” Lorenzo Pizzamiglio who unfortunately did not go beyond fourth place in the three races in which he was involved during the Tiburtina event, but always improving your personal bests.

With i “Play The Games” concludes the competitive activity of the Association which will resume at the end of September. Now a period of well-deserved rest in the summer period, with further recreational events this time, such as the holiday week in Sardinia in mid-Juneand then resume in the months of July, August and September with the motor strengthening activities and preparation for the new sporting year.
