Maurizio Benzi is yet another road victim: he was 62 years old and had just retired. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barrier along the road. Rescue attempts were useless.
The trail of blood left on the streets of Lombardy during the past weekend does not stop. After the death of a young man of 25 yearsvictim of a motorbike accident in Bresciaand to that of a 17 year old boy in Bienno (Brescia), again while on board a motorcycle, yesterday, Sunday 2 June, another biker from Lombardy also died. This is the 62 year old Maurizio Benzirecently retired and residing in San Benedetto Po, in the province of Mantua. She was on a street in Suzzara when he lost control of the vehicle.
Maurizio Benzi was returning from Guastalla where he had gone to follow the Pavia-Venice motorboat raid in the company of his cousin. We were 20 kilometers away from his home when the 62-year-old he lost control of the motorcycle and went off the road. There was nothing the man could do. According to initial reconstructions, around 5.30pm, Benzi skidded and ended up violently against a noise barrier. L’asphalt was wet due to the rain and it may have been this circumstance that caused the accident.
Rescue was immediate. Two emergency medical vehicles and an ambulance from the Suzzara Red Cross went to the scene. Also present were the firefighters, the local police and the Carabinieri of the Gonzaga company. But Mr Benzi was unable to save himself. Investigations underway to determine the exact dynamics of the accident.
