THE 1500 Piazza Solferino – more than the doubts on the eve of the day would suggest – become the treasure of enthusiasm that will support the last week of the centre-left’s electoral campaign. The military and militant strategy of the Democratic Party will take care of the restwith the imperative to multiply efforts and banish the bad thought that scares the base and darkens the forecasts: the overtaking of the center-right, which has never happened since the confrontation between Enzo Ghigo and 25-year-old Livia Turco, in the stronghold of Turin.
Password: total and continuous mobilization
The village of Asterix of Chiamparinian memory must not fall, at any cost. The order of the metropolitan secretary Marcello Mazzù to the 80 party circles is categorical: «Total and continuous mobilization». Double shifts at the gazebos and in the markets until the electoral silence and the firepower of 200 thousand leaflets ready to be distributed. The intention is that each family will have to find in their hands the four-sided brochure with all the faces of the regional and European candidates, the facsimiles of the ballot papers with the instructions on how to vote. The members were indoctrinated on which issues to focus on to convince undecided and abstentions: the ever-present problem of public health and the proposal to make transport free for those under 25, in the hope that the young people’s vote can call into question the outcome of the challenge with Alberto Cirio. It is not for nothing that the leafleting has spread to university buildings and nightlife venues.
Unity against the right
The path was traced by presidential candidate Gianna Pentenero from the stage on Saturday evening: «Let’s transform the enthusiasm that accompanied the arrival of Elly Schlein into a drive to write a new page for Piedmont». The directive to put aside any internal division was given directly by the secretary: “We are and will be stubbornly unitary, we like to build unity against these right-wing parties, which are our only adversary.” Regrets? «Maybe we started late, but there the responsibility lies with everyone – admits Mazzù -, otherwise the feelings are good, in my opinion the Democratic Party will do better than previous policies. Thanks to the battles carried out by the national party but also to how Stefano Lo Russo is managing Turin.” This is also confirmed by Teresa Vercillo, who at 22 is the secretary of the club in via Cervino, heir to a historic section of the PCI: «Despite a certain narrative, the people of Turin are not moving to the right but rather demonstrate a growing need for the left and for rights ».
The propaganda machine has the task of transforming intentions into votes to be counted when the polls open. The candidates will have to fill their diaries with aperitifs and meetings to shake as many hands as possible and distribute as many electoral holy cards. The rest will be done by the final parties of the campaigns for the administrative elections in the surrounding municipalities: Thursday 6th, Queen cover band, free Battipaglia mozzarella and ice cream for Matteo Cavallone in Collegno, flou party and DJ set for Elena Piastra in Settimo. The last act of Pentenero will be on Wednesday 5th, with an aperitif in the garden in the historic center of Valenza. And the allies of Alleanza Verdi and Sinistra will also give a big hand: a super event in Piazza Castello, from 7pm on Thursday 6th, with video connection with Ilaria Salis and on stage Lo Stato Sociale, the Modena City Ramblers and Oskar degli Statuto.
