Fazzino obtains the third record on his home roads of the Coppa Val d’Anapo Sortino
Victory with absolute record for Luigi Fazzino in the 39th edition of the Val d’Anapo Sortino Cupan event organized byAC Syracuse – in collaboration with Siracusa Pro Motor Sport – and valid not only for the Italian South Mountain Speed Championshipbut also for the Sicilian Championship of specialties. After the best time obtained in yesterday’s official practice with a record time of 3’11″82, the rider from Melilla managed to further lower the bar in today’s two timed heats, establishing the new “best” in Race 1 in 3’08″89.
A result which, combined with the 3’12″51 of Race 2, allowed him to obtain the third victory of his career on the 5.220 km route that leads from Sortino to his hometown Melilli. Fazzino, we remember, tackled the home race for the first time on the Osella flagship, the 3000 class PA30 Zytek with which he is achieving so much satisfaction in this first part of the season.

Victorious in Race 2 with a time of 3’11″67, but second overall due to the gap suffered in the first heat this morning (3’12″62), Francesco Conticelli you can be satisfied with your weekend in Arethusa. The Marsala native, making his absolute debut on the Coppa Val d’Anapo Sortino route, kept a good pace throughout the weekend, giving the home riders a hard time, obviously favorites on the eve due to their extensive knowledge of the route.
A significant result that guarantees him not only important points for the CIVM South, but also a lot of experience behind the wheel of the now trusted Nova Proto NP01-02/2000. Also on the overall podium was the man from Comisa Samuele Cassibbaauthor of a great time in Race 2 (3’13″19) and winner among the E2SC-SS/2000 (the main rival in the class, the Calabrian Domenico Scola on Osella PA21/S, was forced to retire in Race 1 and finished fourth in Race 2).
The absolute top ten…
The other Comisan came fourth Franco Caruso on Nova Proto NP01/3000, followed by the record holder of the E2SC-SS/1600, the man from Ragusa Mirko Sulsenti on the “new” Bulla Sport S1000, and the most experienced of the Conticelli family competing in “Sortino”, i.e. dad Vincent on Osella PA30 Evo/3000.
Closing the ranking of the absolute top ten, all occupied by E2SC-SS cars, the Catanzaro driver Francesco Ferraginathe Comisan Gianni Cassibba – Samuele’s father on Osella PA3000 – the club Lorenzo Sardo (Osella PA21 JRB/1600) and the Maltese Darren Camilleri (M20 FC/3000 standard). Among the TMSC-SS, however, with 12th place overall the record went to Antonino Salamone on Radical Prosport/Unica. It should be noted that the race, due to uncertain weather conditions recorded in the morning (sun and rain in the upper part of the track), was concluded late in the afternoon (around 7.00 pm the last car passed under the checkered flag). Furthermore, Race 1 had a “record” duration of six hours given that, in addition to the weather, several cars stopped on the competition route diluted the times.
…and affirmations in groups
As for the groups, in order of positioning in the absolute ranking, it was the one who established themselves in E1 Italia Francesco Lombardo on Peugeot 205/1400, while the ones that stood out among the CN and Silhouette were Giacomo Ferrazzano (Osella PA21S/3000) and the other Maltese in the race Noel Galea on Ford Escort MK2/2000. The expert Angelo Guzzetta he left everyone behind in the RSP at the wheel of his Peugeot 106 S16/1600 and they did the same thing Matteo Salpietro (Peugeot 106 Rallye/1600) in the AS e Alessandro Capello (106 Rallye/1400) in the RSP-S. As already happened in the official tests, Carmelo Ferraro took the lead in his Renault Clio RS Cup in the RSC ranks. Same thing for Marco Nicoletti (106 Rallye) in the NS. Finally, records also on file for Giuseppe Murè (Mini Cooper JCW/RS/TB1600), Michele Arena (Renault Clio/Rally/Rally5) e Francesco Cartelli (106 Rallye/RS-S/1400).
